Remember when grandma or grandpa would talk about all the great classic Westerns they would watch on TV? If your mind immediately went to the amazing pair of cowboy boots in your closet, I don’t blame you. It seems that Western is always in, but with a fresh take on this gun-slinging style.

If this is your sort of thing, then make sure your #ootd includes this season’s designer focus: fringe. In 2013, designers took this classic Western detail and expanded it beyond the turquoise and cowboy hats (although some designers like Ralph Lauren have kept it standard), meaning that fringe isn’t just for the cowboys and cowgals in distress anymore, it’s for the ladies who lunch and the downtown chicks struttin’ their stuff.

As we look to the runways for proof, fringe ran the gamut from delicate and soft (like that seen at Marchesa) to accenting a more multicultural look like that seen at Dolce and Gabbana. Using the guidance of the Fashion Gods (ahem, YSL), you can have your fringe and eat it out whether it’s through an accessory (perhaps a fringe chain necklace) or an article of clothing (a mini with a touch of fringe around the waist):

Terry Richardson not your normal “behind the scenes” photographer.  A celebrity in his own right gaining much influence, enough to come around from behind the lens to the front of the lens as seen here in the latest Valentino campaign. And although we don’t quite see him, it’s his hands that are photographed. His hands are responsible for holding the camera that takes so many images. Maybe this is why Valentino decided just to capture his hands. Hmm…would make sense.

Seems like perhaps Terry Richardson loves his plaid shirts, glasses, and putting his thumbs up, just an observation, would you agree?

I like to think I can relate to all the photos and others I chose not to include because well it’s nicer on the eyes to look at when we are all glamed up or wearing our super hero costumes and not when we look like we need ten more cups of coffee to get us through the day and our hair is a disaster all while running around toddlers. Nah this is a fashion site so let’s keep it pretty. Hey but there are the naysayers that say mothers don’t look like the women above modeling  in magazines or can look as good as a celebrity.

Bah ha ha, nonsense. Try harder. Yes there are days and we all have them that we just don’t. But there are days that you can find me styled up while holding my toddler on my hip and I love every minute of it and still do. Go on any given day to Soho and you can see tons of stylish women with their toddlers. I personally can never imagine leaving my sense of style because I am a mother. That is like ripping a part of me out.

Does that make sense?

So when I get those eyes staring at me, and you know those eyes, because I know it’s not me it’s them.

Those that look at you like

" How dare you be a mom and look nice?" 

Well I say

"how dare you judge me when you look sloppy and use the excuse not to look nice because you are a mother?"

like what if!

So I like to say HAPPY MOTHER”S DAY to EVERYONE because as long as you stay true to you, whether you have days you don’t feel your best or you look your best it’s all okay. We are all mothers and love our children and that’s what it should be about and not who’s wearing what.

I focus on finding my inspiration from my mother to be the best mom I can be whether wearing stilettos or flats with my best accessory (my son) everyday. She is everything in a mom I hope to be!

Okay ring the ALARM another designer collaboration coming our way! Designer Phillip Lim for Target has been announced and will be available as early as September. And although this would normally be music to my ears I must admit I’m a bit skeptical.

This is why… Target designer collaborations have been disappointing. Most recent one Prabal Gurung were nicely designed but the translation from photo to the store was cheaply done.

Okay you may say what do you expect the quality to be like?

H&M has consistently executed designer collaborations well without sacrificing the designer look with flimsy fabrics. With Phillip Lim I hope Target has learned from its past mistakes and this designer collaboration is a success. We will definitely check this collaboration out in hopes to finding great finds.

Prices run from $20 to $75, for bags running $60 and under and leather jackets from $250 – $300

The group of designers (up and coming NYC designers) work for non-profit and individuals.  The Young Designers Collective is a association of a group of designers who give back without sacrificing quality. I am a true believer in giving back and I am especially proud that these group of talented designers hail from NYC like myself.

Woven into the fashion scene, there are those designers that are front-line veterans and those who are on their way to greatness of the like.

One designer who fits the latter category is Candela, a fresh, bohemian-equestrian line by NYC-er Gabriela Perezutti began in 2004. When you take a look at each season, you can see consistent influences from her Brazilian and Argentinian roots paired with a “gaucho” aesthetic and “the postmodern city”. While it may seem like a strangely diverse combination, each inspiration meshes incredibly to create a drool-worthy line that is completely covetable.
