RUNWAY TREND: GLADIATOR SANDALS

If you’ve ever been a Russell Crowe fan, or even alive at the turn of the millennium, then you’ve probably seen the movie Gladiator… or maybe you’re more of a Gerard Butler kind of person and prefer 300. Whatever your ancient Rome favorite is, you should probably take a cue from those bronzed gods and pick up a pair of gladiator sandals for this Spring.

So, why is the gladiator sandal a must-have for the upcoming season? Mainly because it was seen all over the runways from Versace to Altuzarra, no big deal (clearly you’d be missing out on what trend setters already have on their shoe racks). While we’ve seen gladiators for most Spring seasons since, well, ancient times, this year it’s all about a calf-covering style that practically grazes your knees. Even if you’re a bit weary of such a bold style, never fear, because there are some paired down styles that are more ankle skimming.

Even though it’s still bitter cold for many places, celebs and fashionistas alike have already been spotted donning their best Roman-inspired footwear. So take a peek and decide where gladiator sandals will fit into your wardrobe when the snow melts and temperatures begin to rise:

When I was about 15 or 16 yrs old…mumble, mumble years ago some friends & I had white gladiator shoes. They were sandals that wrapped/crisscrossed around the leg & tied just below the knee. I used to want another pair, but now the legs are kind of old, but I’ll bet some teenagers would love them. We thought they were pretty chic. They also didn’t cost an arm & a leg or we wouldn’t have been able to afford them. It could have been some 50 or 60 years ago. LOL
