DREAMING OF A DIFFERENT ERA

I often imagine living in the 1940’s where it wasn’t unusual for women to look well put together and glamorous. When women didn’t have to have a ‘reason’ to wear a dress, heels, and make-up. I often wonder when did it all change? Why do we need a ‘reason’ to look great and dress nicely? It kills me if someone ask why are you so dressed up? When all you are wearing is a t-shirt, jeans, flats, and because you throw on a nice blazer they consider it dressing up, huh? When you can’t help but to think the opposite. Why do you look so sloppy and did you even comb your hair today and please tuck in that shirt, and could you have pressed that top? When is it a “bad” thing to look a litter nicer? Hmmm…so that is why I have chosen the 40’s.

In the 1940’s you didn’t need an excuse to look great. Women wore their dresses and heels with pride. In 1947 one of the biggest fashion designers even in our time, Christian Dior launched their first collection (House of Dior) and set the bar for everyone else in fashion and was known as the “new look” after the war. This era was known for form-fitting dresses, heels, pencil skirts, gloves, hats, veils, and glamorous pearls. Glamour icons such as; Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Marilyn Monroe were what women inspired to look like. So every so often I sit down and put on “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and imagine what I would have looked like if I lived in the 1940’s? A girl can dream:)

I love this post!! It really had me thinking. I even googled the 1920's, 30's, etc fashion so I could say which era I'd prefer to live in if I had the option. I would say my preferred era would be the 30's. The look had personality and attitude. Tottally my style =)
